PTCC Results Round 6

Winton is Kelly Country

Peter Kelly turns Winton into Kelly Country as the Kellbi Developments BMW 130 driver takes out round 6 of the PTCC from teammate Luke Searle and youngster George Miedecke.

Peter Kelly (Class A) seemed to have Searle (Class A) covered throughout most of the day, and as Luke would post a fast time Peter was able to better it, finally setting a track record of 1.38.9893. The red Class A Toyota Celica of Malcolm Rae improved all day and with more development to take place and with Malcolm gaining confidence after every race the combination might surprise at Calder Park.

Coming into the last race both Miedecke and McIntosh were tied on points and the chase for the Class B championship between McIntosh, Willmington and Miedecke is fiercely contested at every round. Winton proved to be no exception. The pace on the day of the Hyundai and the Peugeot was just a little too much for an off color Wilmington. Not even the pink wheels and the grid boys could Natalie's efforts.

Neil Byers had his Mitsubishi 380 (Class B) right on the pace and the Renault of Bryan Fitzpatrick (Class A) continues to improve as the team learns more about this fantastic little car. The Toast night Club Owner from Canberra brings plenty of fun to the pits and the PTCC.

In Class C, Tony Saliba had his hands and mirrors full of competition from Protons and Hyundai Sonata. The experience of the ex-Procar driver Graham Roylett was enough to end the winning run of Saliba. Both Roylett and Peter Erler had the Nissan in a Proton sandwich most of the day. Although beaten for only the second time in class this year Tony pushed the Nissan around the track determined to maintain his championship lead.

Toward the end of the race the Hyundai of Daniel Flanagan was out of rubber and brakes and while the Hyundai finished at the tail the car with its strong V6, new rubber and brakes will be one to watch as it will welcome the long Calder Park straight when the PTCC visits for round 7 in late October.
