Formula 4000 Overview

Formula 4000 is the fastest category in Australian Motor Racing. Established in 1989 and based on Formula 3000 or Formula Nippon chassis, the cars feature the 3.6 litre, quad-cam, all alloy, V6 Holden Motorsport Alloytech engine. An international pedigree, with a distinct Australian flavour, and the fastest laptimes at just about every circuit they visit, makes the Formula 4000 category one of the most exciting open-wheeled categories on the track.

Now heading into its eighteenth year, Formula 4000 has also been a breeding ground for some of Australia's biggest Motor Racing talents, former champions and competitors include Mark Webber, Scott Dixon, Will Power, Jonny Reid, Mark Skaife, Greg Murphy, Jason Bright, Craig Lowndes, Todd Kelly, Rick Kelly and Jason Bargwanna - racers who have gone on to excel in everything from V8 Supercars to Formula One!

This year the action is as hot as ever, with a sixteen race, eight round series, spread throughout the Australian mainland from the picturesque Wakefield Park Circuit to the technical Winton Raceway. This contrast in racetracks allows ‘up and coming’ drivers to refine their talent in varying conditions and environments, providing spectators with sensational wheel to wheel action.

The national and international exposure created by Formula 4000 is a great opportunity for sponsors and aspiring champions to reach the widest possible audience of motor sport enthusiasts in Australia and Overseas.
